Search Engine Optimization - What is it really ? - Part I
From dawn of the
internet and the World Wide Web, many people were trying to set up
their own web sites, and vie for popularity in the internet.
In the early
days, one's website could become popular, only by word of mouth.
With the
advent of the Search Engines, the internet was soon grouped by major
websites, which would then send visitors to other websites.
Webmasters then
started realizing, that by tapping the search engines, they would be rewarded
with greatly increased traffic.
So they devised
and discovered techniques, which would garner visitors from the search
engines to their websites.
This was usually
accomplished with increasing the density of popular keywords in their
web pages.
The very same
keywords that many use, to search the internet through the search
engines.
With the
internet getting more complex and bigger, day by day, month by month,
and year by year, the problem of getting visitors to one's website,
became acute.
This was due to
the fact, that the search engines were busy, changing their techniques,
or algorithms as they called it, to better serve their users.
Thus there was a
need to transform one's website, to adapt to the search engines, in
order to get more visitors to one's website.
Thus was born a
series of logical and scientific techniques, due to which a website
owner, could transform their website, to gain more people to their
websites.
These logical
and scientific techniques collectively came to be known as Search
Engine Optimization or SEO in short.
Search Engine Optimization are a series of logical and scientific
techniques, to get a better ranking in the Search Engines.
It involves,
optimizing one's website for a set of keywords or key phrases.
It also
involves, establishing links with other websites, which would make it
look important and popular.
It also involves
having good content in the web site, which would be good for the
users, and the search engines, as they would value it.
And above all, one must have original
good content, that people enjoy reading, or looking.
This is so because, unless one is an
established "brick and mortar" company, and has a good name outside,
they cannot succeed in even being visible, amongst the millions of web
pages, that the internet currently has, unless they have good original
content.
In fact, it is your content that has
the greatest value in search engine optimization.
As the saying goes, "In order to get
something good, one must give back something good".
