Search Engine Optimization - What is it really ? - Part II
In order to get
good quality visitors, who would one day become customers, one must
provide original content in their website.
This I think is
the bottom line of Search Engine Optimization, and no amount of keyword
optimization or linking is going to bring any good, if one does not
have anything good to show.
The search
engines understand this criterion, and they are always fine tuning
their algorithms, with only one purpose in mind.
That is to
better serve their users, by presenting them only good web pages, in
their searches.
If one looks at the standpoint, of visitors browsing the web, and try
to gauge their wanting, we would find the following.
People are
interested in viewing and reading pages, that have good content.
They want
something informational, unique, and that which aids in their
search.
Good content,
can only be something that is tailored for the particular website, and
not duplicated across the internet.
It is something
unique to their website, and written by themselves or others.
People like to
read something fresh, original and informational.
They like to
read other people's viewpoints, and writings.
The search
engine portals spend lots of money in conducting market research into
the reading and buying habits of people, and they recognize this need,
and thus address them with improving their algorithms, and fetching
only the pages, which are really worth reading.
I am not saying
there is no exception, and that some sites which does not deserve to be
in the top, happen to be there.
Exceptions
happen, maybe happen very so often, but the search engine portals keep
refining their algorithms all the time, and making it more and
more difficult for an undeserving site to figure in their top
pages.
Summarizing, if one wants good traffic from the search engines, and
they are not an already established or widely known company, then they
must, in my opinion, optimize their site observing the following
guidelines.
I. Provide good
original content or products in their website.
II. Optimize their site for all the popular keywords and key phrases,
pertaining to their website, while maintaining the quality, readability
and usefulness of those pages.
III. Try to have links with quality websites. That, which have good
original content like theirs.
These
strategies, will pay off in the long run, on the road to establishing
oneself on the internet.
If one is serious to establish their websites on the internet, and use
Search Engine Optimization as a means of promoting them.
Then they should
first ask themselves these questions.
1. What are the
people on the internet looking for, when it comes to my area of
expertise ?
2. Do I have original content, which is not displayed on any other page
on the internet ? If not how can I address this issue ?
3. What does research say about the popular search terms used in the
past to find web pages similar to mine ?
4. How should I rewrite content, so that I optimize my pages with the
popular search phrases, by using them in my sentences and paragraphs,
while maintaining the flow, and usefulness of those pages ?
5. What ways can I utilize the popular search phrases, in my website,
for images, graphics, style sheets, scripts, filenames, and
directories, while maintaining the usefulness, readability, and
naturalness of every page, and not border on spamming ?
6. How to conduct a successful link campaign, to exchange links with
similar websites, with good original content ?
If one did well
on these questions, then they could be well on the road to enjoying
great deal of traffic from search engine portals.
